On the 27th of October, I played a duo concert with Raymond MacDonald at Sharmanka in Glasgow. Besides our saxophones, Raymond and I used a series of objects, including Calabrian sounding objects, in our performance. Raymond played a newly crafted instrument he recently designed in collaboration with an artificial intelligence entity in Geneva, as well as his alto and soprano saxophones. I played alto saxophone and several Calabrian sounding objects, including pipite, zampugneđđe, flute and goat bells.
The concert featured all improvised music and was a fantastic experiment in including Calabrian sounding objects in music performance. During the concert, we also had the opportunity to interact musically with the beautiful kinetic sculptures in Sharmanka and the incredible variety of sounds they produce.
This was a fantastic way to communicate the research I am doing with LoMus to a very attentive and warm public. Thanks to John Cavanagh for organising this wonderful concert, Sergey Jakovsky and Sharmanka for hosting us and Denis Alyshev for the pictures and videos!
